About Me

Hi, my name is Lisa Waker, I am a qualified Psychotherapist and Counsellor. I’m an accredited member with The National Counselling Society (NCS) a registrant of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and I work to their code of ethics.
I am client as well as being goal focused, this means that we work together to find a solution to your problem that works for you, I do not offer a one size fits all type therapy, I focus on you as a client and we work towards an end goal so that you can decide on what you want to achieve from your therapy and from each session.

I work with many issues ranging from;

  • Anxiety
  •  Stress
  •  Depression
  •  Bereavement & Grief
  •  Emotional eating disorders
  •  Anger issues
  •  Confidence & self esteem
  •  Relationship Issues.

I offer a relaxed and discreet therapy setting to help you feel more comfortable while discussing issues that are currently affecting you. It is important that you feel at ease and that each session works at a pace that you are happy with, we do not explore any issues or situations that you are not comfortable in addressing, all information is kept strictly private and confidential.
Having a safe environment to offload past and present issues is extremely important and I continue my training so that I can provide that safety and techniques to help you, I attend regular counselling supervision to oversee my work and have professional liability insurance to cover our working together.

One To One Counselling

One to One counselling allows you to explore issues that are currently impacting on your life; these may be from your past, dealing with a present crisis or fear of what may happen in the future. It is important to have a safe space to talk through and understand your current thinking and behaviour as well as how you are coping.
When you are facing times of uncertainty or crisis having a safe space allows you to gain clarity and find a resolution to your problems.
How often do you spend thinking about you and the issues that impact you?
Wouldn’t it be nice to sit and reflect on the impact of these issues and then find a way to deal with them effectively?
There are many ways in which I can help you move forward positively by focusing on your mind set and behaviour. Through the use of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) as well as various techniques you will learn to release negative emotions safely. This gives us a variety of ways to approach your treatment plan and allows you to choose the way that you would like your own therapy to continue.
I offer a relaxed and discreet therapy setting to help you feel more comfortable while discussing issues that are currently affecting you. It is important that you feel at ease and that each session works at a pace that you are happy with. We do not explore any issues or situations that you are not comfortable in addressing, it goes without saying that all information is kept strictly private and confidential.

Relationship Counselling

Relationship Counselling: If you’re reading this page it’s possibly because you are dealing with a relationship that is in need of help. Perhaps you are no longer communicating effectively, or dealing with a major life issue that is impacting on your relationship? You have come to the right place.
Some reasons that people seek relationship counselling are that they have lost how to communicate, the stresses of day to day life have got in the way, petty comments now override any loving remarks and the reason why they are together appears lost.
This can happen within all types of relationships this is why my approach is not just used for working with couples.
Would you like to learn to communicate better?
Would you like a safe space to explore your relationship?
To regain a healthy relationship is to understand how and why it went wrong, dealing with any unresolved issues so that the relationship can start to rebuild from a strong foundation with effective ways of communicating and understanding each other’s needs.
I also work with couples where the decision has been made to separate, counselling allows a couple to still communicate effectively and to mutually respect each other even after the relationship has ended. I believe that this is extremely important especially if there are children within the relationship, allowing each partner to feel valued and showing their children that the family unit is still strong.
Ideally I work with you as a couple, however it is still possible to help you find better ways of communicating as an individual to have a positive impact on your relationship.
For some couples it is better to work on a one to one basis initially so that any issues can be explored prior to working as a couple.

Sessions Are Done either face to face or via Skype or Zoom

Skype or Zoom is a fantastic way to connect with a counselling service, not only is it convenient but a great way to obtain help and support at a distance.

What is Skype & Zoom?

It is a free to download video calling facility that can be downloaded quickly via the link provided below, this will allow you to make video calls from your computer, laptop or tablet all you need is a webcam and a microphone, these are normally already within most modern devices.

What are the benefits of using counselling via Skype or Zoom?

For some it may just be down to convenience, if you struggle to find time to fit a counselling session into your busy schedule then this is an effective way of receiving support from the comfort of your own home.  You can now choose a therapist who is suited to your own needs rather than being limited by where you live.
Skype or Zoom counselling is also cost effective because it is done from the comfort of your own home, therefore there are no additional travelling costs and time taken out to reach your counselling session, all you have to do is switch your computer on, log into your Skype account at the allotted session time in the privacy of your own home (even with a cuppa) and you are ready to go, being in familiar surroundings also helps you feel more comfortable and in control while discussing issues with your counsellor.
Counselling via Skype or Zoom also means that you have your counsellor in your pocket, as you decide where and when its convenient, so if you are travelling away with work then there’s no reason why you can’t take your counsellor with you! But this service also benefits those that struggle to leave home whether you are housebound, live in a remote area or have issues with childcare you are now able to access a counselling service.

How do I know it will be right for me?

I would advise that you book a FREE 15 minute consultation via Phone, Zoom or Skype so that you can see how you feel within this setting, this type of counselling isn’t for everyone and I would advise against it if you are in serious crisis and needing additional support.

Are there any other areas that I should consider?

There may be a loss of connection if the internet signal isn’t strong enough, if the session cannot continue then the remainder of the session will be rescheduled at a convenient time for both.
